Rating System

Since numbers are only arbitrary when used to rate music, I have decided to create a page to explain my rating system in a little more depth. This is the system I use when deciding what rating to give an album

  • 5.0/5 - A perfect album
  • 4.5/5 - Nearly flawless, a must-listen
  • 4.0/5 - Great
  • 3.5/5 - Recommendable
  • 3.0/5 - Average
  • 2.5/5 - Listenable, but inessential
  • 2.0/5 - Disliked
  • 1.5/5 - Simply bad
  • 1.0/5 - Grating to the ears, unlistenable
As you can see, my rating system may not be the same as other sites that use a five point scale. An album I feel is only average still gets a 3/5. As a general rule, any album I give a 3.5/5 or greater is one that I would recommend to readers of this blog. Anything below a 3.0 I would recommend skipping. My most common ratings tend to be 3.0 and 3.5. Ratings greater than 4 are rare.
